Milparinka Disabilities

Industry:

Health and Government

The situation

Milparinka Disability Services in Brunswick supports people who have a disability to pursue lifestyles that include the same opportunities that all members of the community expect and enjoy.

The organisation was interested in installing a solar PV system and engaged Moreland Energy Foundation for assistance and support in the process. As a preferred supplier for commercial solar with a friendly and consultative approach, Cherry Energy Solutions was chosen to complete the project.

Milparinka were interested in getting the largest solar PV system possible, while maintaining their aesthetical style. Another point of concern was the financial investment necessary for an installation.

The solution

Balancing aesthetics with functionality, Cherry designed a 22.88kW solar PV system with tilted panels on the north side of the building to keep it subtly hidden. Milparinka were also supported by Powershop’s Community Energy Program and received $10,000 towards the cost of the project. Thanks to the Powershop grant and excellent return on investment for solar energy, Milparinka will be cashflow positive by more than $18,000 over the next 10 years.

The organisation is now operating with 64% of their energy needs provided by solar. The system will produce approximately 30,505 kWh per annum, equivalent to $4,400 in savings.
